Radio frequency identification, or RFID, is a generic term for technologies that use radio waves to automatically identify objects or groups of objects (cases, pallets or containers).

Wilbert Plastic Services is working with one of the top RFID vendors, Red Prairie, to offer a suite of RFID supply chain software.

The most common applications for RFID are tracking goods in the supply chain, reusable containers, high value tools and assets, and parts moving to a manufacturing production line. RFID is not a replacement for bar codes. The two are different technologies and have different applications, which sometimes overlap. The big difference between the two is bar codes are line-of-sight technology. RFID tags can be read as long as they are within range of a reader (typically 20 to 100 feet).
